Funeral held for slain Bismarck soldier
Associated Press
BISMARCK, N.D. - Family and friends said their final goodbyes Thursday to slain Army soldier Anthony Monroe.
Hundreds of people turned out for Monroe's funeral at First Presbyterian Church, which was closed to the media, said Terri Wilhelm, a family friend. Monroe will be buried later, she said.
"Tony will always be remembered as a hero, a son and a friend," the family said in a statement. "We are relieved to have him home, but nothing can ever replace him."
Monroe, 20, of Bismarck, was killed Oct. 11 when rockets hit his camp in Baghdad. He became the ninth U.S. service member from North Dakota or serving with a North Dakota military unit to be reported killed while on duty in Iraq.
Wilhelm said Monroe was posthumously promoted from private first class to specialist, and his mother, Bernadette Monroe, was presented with his Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct medals.
People who knew Monroe said he was a fun-loving man who had many friends.
"He was like a brother to me," said Sam Abdallah, one of those friends.
"If Tony could have arranged his own funeral, I know it would have been a lot different," said Ty Bohe, a high school friend of Monroe's. "He would have wanted us to be partying instead of sitting there crying and singing gospel songs and whatnot. He'd have rock 'n' roll going."
Anthony Monroe was the son of Bernadette and the late Jefferey Monroe, of Bismarck. He was a graduate of Bismarck High School with a younger sister, Caitlyn and brother, Nicholas.
He was serving as a vehicle mechanic with the 1st Cavalry Division, based in Fort Hood, Texas, when he was killed.

Wow! One minute your going to a concert just to listen, the next minute your playing! That is exactly what happened to us last night. I, Steven, went to the Mandan stop of the Boneyard tour and started talking to this guy named Jasson Yellow Bird. We talked for a bit, then I mentioned I was in a band called Nerve Impulse. He was like, "what do you guys play?" So I told him, and he was like, "well, 5 of the other bands arn't going to be here. So if you guys want to play, bring your stuff and be here in 45 mins!" I was like cool. Then I bee lined it over to the other guys' house and we packed our shit and we were out of their! So, i'd like to say thank you to Jasson and all of the other bands that played last night...which were: Left to Burn, Omnipotent Belligerance, and Khaos Stone. So, to those bands and everyone who put on the Boneyard Tour 2004 (the first annual North Dakota independent music tour), Thank you!
In other news, we will only be playing on the 11th of next month at the Cove instead of both the 10th and the 11th. Also, we are working on new material that in our opinions rocks...something fierce!
Tuesday August 24th
"Culture Shock" went very well, thanks to all the fans who came out and supported us during our set. Our next show is scheduled for Friday and Saturday September 10th & 11th. We will be playing with Dry at the Pirate's Cove...This will be the weekend of Folk Fest and also United Tribes Powwow...it will be a good weekend for food! Other then that we have been practicing some new songs that were unveiled at "Culture Shock" and also songs that are still in the woodworks...brace yourself, they are awesome!
Friday July 22nd

So call them up for more info or if you would like to get a flyer. I'll be back in town on August 7th, so the band will start practicing either that night or the day after.

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!
Friday March 12th
Well this sucks! From what i've learned, the showcase that we are suppost to be playing tonight...was held last night.
Although that sucks, we did play a very brief set at StringBean last night. The set list is up at the SHOWS section of the website.
Only other news that really makes me mad is that at last night's show, in Lincoln, the police came and busted one of my friends...why the hell were they out there anyway? ...That question remains to be answered.
Thursday March 11th
